SANs to be relied on

HostPro commit to Intel platforms for SAN use in Gloucester data centre.

Hostpro are now using all Intel platforms including the Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2 with Microsoft Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003. These systems have been hugely successful in deployment and reliability in our data centre has been excellent. The ease of management and the RAID features provided make this a fast reliable method for vast data storage.

The SSR212MC2 is a 2u rack mount storage system that supports 12 enterprise-class Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or high-capacity Serial ATA (SATA) HDDs. Flexible network connectivity allows us to use Fibre Channel or Infiniband via add-in cards.

Our SAN systems are directly attached to our gigabit backbone providing data storage for our Intel blade systems.

New Fire suppression systems installed

HostPro work with Gloucester based A&E Fire to upgrade our FM200 fire suppression system.

Internet Data Centres (IDCs), Network Operating Centres (NOCs) and similar applications represent a considerable fire risk due to their high power requirement and density of electronic circuitry. Reliable, very early smoke detection systems can drastically eliminate this risk and efficiently protect mission critical data and equipment.

Our upgraded data centre in Gloucester which has recently been upgraded to accommodate more racks has had an all new FM200 gas fire suppression system installed. The new system is fully automated and linked in our central fire and alarm monitoring system.

FM200 has been universally accepted as the most suitable extinguishant to supersede Halon 1301. It gives superior extinguishing performance and rapid fire knockdown within ten seconds. Rapid flame extinguishing (Halocarbon gases, like Halons, react directly with the fire to terminate the combustion process)
